Dear Member or Prospective Member,
Time goes by so quickly! It’s already time for our spring programme with regular events, as well as new ideas.
A real highlight of the season is the visit of Scottish poet Kenneth Steven early in May.
Both Leo/Cinematograph and Metropol cinemas have sent us lists of their future films in English. With your new Membership Card a discounted ticket price of €6 will be available at the Metropol Cinema. Those members who have not yet collected their Membership Cards for the current year from the Society rooms will shortly receive them in the post. If you wish to attend an introductory chat about one of the films in English, please be at the cinema 30 minutes before the film starts.
Come along to the Galway Bay Irish Pub and enjoy a Rugby Match on a Sunday afternoon, a concert of Benjamin Britten’s music in the Kongresshaus or enjoy one of the films (see the website or the list in the Society rooms). There are two ‘African Events‘ as well as various British ones this spring.
Our traditional Pancake Race takes place on Shrove Tuesday, 12th February.
If you don’t know about pancakes, come along and find out!
Excursion
either Saturday 15th. June or Friday to Saturday 14th to 15th June.
At special request, the Excursion will extend to two days for those who wish.
We continue in the tracks of D. H. Lawrence. Four years ago our first literary excursion followed Lawrence along the Zillertal to Mayrhofen and on to the Dominikus Hütte. The journey now continues.
For the more adventurous, we are offering a walking tour starting on Friday 14th June.
The Friday group leave Innsbruck for Schlegeis Stausee (1,800m). From the Stausee we will walk up to the Pfitscherjochhaus (2,200m) where we will stay overnight. This is not a difficult path and the walk should take about three hours.
On the morning of Saturday 15th June we will walk down from the Pfitscherjochhaus to Stein (1,550m) and St. Jakob (1,450m) where we wil lmeet the Saturday Group for lunch at Gasthaus Hofer.
Sat 15th June
The Saturday group meets in the Car Park opposite Billa near the Society Rooms at 08.00. Our bus will take us over the Brenner Pass to Gossensass, where we will visit the small museum about Henrik Ibsen and have a coffee break. We then continue to St. Jakob in the Pfitschertal to meet up with the Friday group for lunch.
We then spend the afternoon exploring the Lawrence connections in Pfitschertal and take a walk around Sterzing, with a visit to the fine Parish Church, before the trip back over the Brenner and home.
This excursion needs quite a lot of planning. We need to know well in advance which size of bus we need to reserve, as both groups will be returning together.
The bus company wants to know the size of bus, if possible by the end of February. Because of this we ask you to confirm your booking by contacting
- letting her know which excursion you are taking part in and
- paying a deposit of €20 per person into the Society's Bank Account:

The exact charge will be notified as soon as it is known.

Annual BBQ
This year the Barbecue will again be held in the Zeiners‘ garden on Saturday 6th July. The meeting place will be at the car park next to Birgitz Church at 15.00.
Meat and charcoal for the BBQ are provided by the Society. The rest of the food and drink are supplied by members eg. salads, desserts, cakes, wine, beer etc. Please check with Hazel regarding what you wish to bring to avoid too much of the same thing.
We look forward to seeing you at one or more of the spring events!
With best wishes, |
